What is BEST?
|Doing Our BEST – In January of 2006, the superintendents and board members from Central Elementary School District 104, O’Fallon Elementary School District 90, O’Fallon Township High School District 203, Pontiac-Wm Holliday School District 105, and Shiloh Elementary School District 85 held a meeting. Their purpose was to address the master-planning of educational needs for the future of all schools that send students to O’Fallon Township High School. The result of this meeting was the formation of a committee that has been named Building Educational Success Together (BEST).
One of the many goals/objectives of BEST is to articulate to the communities involved a future educational vision for what is needed from an integrated, strategic master-planning perspective over the next 10 years while exploring the myriad of other positive ways to work collaboratively. It should be noted that the school districts have in the past (many in our communities are not aware of these collaborative efforts), and will continue to work with one another, in several areas to include the following:
- Curriculum, Transportation and Communications
- Food and Library Services
- Articulation and School calendar
- Testing dates and Institute days
- Weekly Superintendent breakfast meeting
- Special education services
- State textbook purchases,
- Crisis management/safety issues,
- State and Federal grant writing,
- Healthcare coordination
- Financial services
BEST is devoted not only to maintaining quality educational opportunities for our youth, but also to informing the general public of these endeavors, challenges, and/or accomplishments.
Superintendents, School Board members of all five BEST schools and other BEST members met at the Scott AFB Club to brainstorm collaborative activities.
